Sounds like a good idea… But how can someone want to book3 hours with me without even knowing that I really look like my pictures?
According to this method, I should charge $587 for 1 hour, $1,175 for two hours and $1,200 for 3 hours.. But most clients are not willing to pay more than $400 an hour..

Great info Erin!! Nice concept of pricing. Kind of makes you feel like you are getting a hell of a deal for an extra $25… Please publish tips in PDF format as well, possibly your new book? :) Thank you for your hard work and for sharing your knowledge. We appreciate it!!

Great Video! You and your assistant are adorable!

I’ve been doing something like this for a while driving my clients to my two hour appointment which is heavily, Heavily discounted and it works quite well. i get many 2 hours, because my 2 hour is such a deal! Im going to have a rate restructuring coming up I’m going to employ you’re “dessert technique!

    thanks Erin!

  6. Mimi  on October 7th, 2008

This is ridiculous. After two decades in adult entertainment I can tell you men are not that stupid. You set an hourly rate and stick to it. Desert is what they come to you for. The service is what it is. There are no ad ons. This is fine for product sales, but not a service. Especially this type of service.
A better method is to over price then offer then the rate you want as a gift to them. It makes them feel special to get a discount.
That is how to get more money.

  7. myhoneysuckle  on October 7th, 2008

    Milani –

I would suggest more of a structure like:

    1200 / 3 hrs
    1000 / 2 hrs
    500 / 1 hr

If you are NOT comfortable with going below a certain threshold for your hourly rate, then by all means, keep it where your comfort zone lies.

Also, you should be tracking EVERYTHING… if you change your rates and calls drop off significantly, but sessions book for longer sessions, track it in a spreadsheet… if you drop your rate and you get more calls, but are booking more one hours sessions than ever before, track it in your spreadsheet.

Until you are testing and tracking your own results, you won’t really know what is going to work for you…

Mimi – I dunno what to tell you, hon, besides I could not disagree with you more.

The technique you are describing screams “used car salesman”, don’t you think?

Most people are extremely put-off by the jacking up the prices, just to bring them down to make you feel special model.

People can get extremely weird feelings when you toy with them like this.

If discounts are EVER given out, they should be extremely few and far between… very special occasions like solider about to head out to Iraq.

They should not be handed out as incentives. No no no….bad news bears, for sure.

Again, I said this technique is counter-intuitive. It is! That’s why your gut is telling you it won’t work. But, please don’t knock it until you try it.

And yes it does work quite well with services…

  8. Mimi  on October 7th, 2008

Offering something extra for more money when it’s all the same game is a bit of a salesmen I would say. Overselling and kinda of ripping people off. DOnt you think?

The point of marketing is to make a client feel he is special and getting more. That keeps them coming back.
So offering them a special price. A price that is what you want in the first place is just thinking outside the box. It’s not discounting.
You get your money and you make them feel special.
    Think about it…

Mimi – Thanks for the feedback. It sounds like what you’re doing is working for you, and that you are 100% happy with your results.

We’ll just have to agree to disagree, regarding the Rate Decoy.

I encourage anyone to TEST this approach before making up their mind, because I have.

I’ve worked with hundreds of girls, and I’ve seen this work over and over. This isn’t just a theory. It also doesn’t have anything to do with trickery or taking advantage of stupidity. It’s just the psychology of choice of how human beings make buying decisions.

  10. Megan  on October 17th, 2008

    Mimi,
If you are so successful using your method, then why are you still in the business after 20 years?

Successful women in the adult industry don’t find themselves still mired in it two decades later. Obviously, you’re doing something very wrong. You’re the last person I’d listen to.

Thank you Erin for this suggestion. It’s working marvelously for me.

  11. Nicole  on October 18th, 2008

I for one think it is a great idea and I have a BBA so I know a lot about this. This is same as when you offer 250/ hr and 300/ 90 mins. You are trying to get someone to choose a longer session.. The problem is 250/hr is still the best deal.

But if you make your rate schedule like:

    300/hr
    600/ 2 hr
    625/ 3 hrs and desert

    Or

    250/hr
    500/ 2 hr
    525/ 3 hrs and desert

3 hrs looks like a deal. And you are not tricking the gent by saying desert. It just sounds more professional and better. And yes some gents can not afford more than 1 hour but this caters to the man who can..

Oh and most gents will not stay for the whole 3 hours. After a few rounds they will be tired and ready to go home.

Thanks I will start using this.

  12. myhoneysuckle  on October 18th, 2008

Nicole, you made a great point that I think I failed to in the video, which is:

“but this caters to the man who can…”

    exactly!

  13. Brittany Bella.  on November 25th, 2008

Ok first off, i think you’re awesome with this and what you’re doing..

with that being said, I have to say that I see an issue here…
now i’m not arguing with the rates system or rather or not it actually works (my guess is yes, it does) BUT seems like you would be opening an entire other can of worms with this “added item”.
I personally don’t talk about rates or services with my clients (it’s all laid out there..if they have a ?…read a review, i have many! lol) if the answer isn’t found, then either they’re an idiot(whom i’d rather avoid…) or it isn’t available.

this method ENCOURAGES gents to inquire about what it is they’re getting as a bonus.
That generates some risky discussions that could, god forbid, get you in a bit of trouble…

ALSO…if you’re successful in this business people are going to talk about you…(word of mouth is the best marketing tool in this hush hush industry…) so how is it going to look when the word gets out that there’s nothing extra special about opting for the “desert” or whatever option in comparison to service offered at the lowest rate…
if you do offer something “extra” special with the increased rate..then word gets out that you won’t do “this” normally, but you will for “x amount” …doesn’t really read well in the public forums…and reputation is key

I don’t know…anyone trying this out let me know if please if they have any luck or issues with what i am concerned about…

i’m curious now…like i said i think you’re great for doing what your doing here…but you have to remember that the normal politics of marketing don’t apply 100% when you are always being judged based on service as well as how ethical u seem (and yes believe it or not this is the biggest issue in the industry)
because there are so many scams out there, a lot of these guys are quick to throw up red flags (sometimes unjustly) whenever ANYTHING is questionable….

    but anyway…just my .02

    Britneybella and Mimi,
You don’t have to write dessert if you don’t want to. Try writing something enticing that will make them want to pound down your door. i.e. offer massage. with that you can do an hour of massage. and 2 hours or and hour and half of fun. With most of the guys that can afford it and want to stay for a long time tend to be older. They want a girl they can talk to not just a pretty face. So in between courses you have to keep them interested.

Mimi you have been working for a long time and you seem like you like to give your customer their moneys worth. I used to feel the same way i would post for 200 and hour and get a lot people that thought that i should post for less and be explict and focus on their needs. I added and extra 50 and i got much nicer guys for much less hassle. i still get plenty of guys that ask me to lower my rate but i just hang up on them. Some guys just want have fun and run and some guys that wo spend time with a nice woman and will pay to do so.

If you ask me you should at least try it will you new customers and keep the old ones on the old pay scale. And like Erin says track it on paper and see how your doing.

  17. Christina Diamonte  on January 16th, 2009

Ok, I’ve ready this discussion. I agree with the your tactics Erin, when I write my ads, I include desert, roses, ect. as the decoy for the sake of being hush hush.
The numbers add up because it’s the physcology of a mans’ mind that would consider to be a thorough and consistant deal when you go back to the begining of the video when the point was spoken on the double ups.

I like the subtle change because I do offer more than 1 interest and Erin’s breakdown provides a certain space for anyone and everyone to perform as you wish rather than taking discretion and a gentlemen’s different needs as well as a ladies different comforts to going about things.

Thank you, it makes sense I went to small business management school and have plenty experience in both corporate financial and self reliance when everyone around is trying to see what you have, what your doing and what you can do for them. Its a discreet way of economics in a world of frugile minds inquiring.

Thank You, I’ll Use It Soon When I Get Eros & City Back Up.
    Take Care~Ciao~

    Erin,
It’s great to hear a woman with such an entrepreneurial spirit and analytical mind towards Adult Entertainment as a business. I think your work is amazing and hope it inspires women all over to work smarter not harder….and safer.

Ladies, I am living proof that this can be an effective rate structure (if it fits your needs) I have had my rates structured similarly for years. Prior to that I used to see others websites and think, “No one is going to pay me $1200 for three hours!” I was so wrong. I found that if you offer it, people will consider it. If even one or two people in a month read it and possibly think, “Wow, that would be cool, let’s do that!” Then that means you could make more than two thousand dollars. $2000 just about covers my basic bills for a month and that means sooo much less stress!

I never believed it until I tried it, but I started to find there is an entirely different class of men who appreciate a woman and her time. There are so many successful men with disposable income who have no problem paying for quality experiences where they feel important and special : )

    Here’s to everyone’s future successes!

I never offered a 3 hour appointment and now that I have it listed on my website I am starting to book longer appointments and more $$$.

I’m so glad I found your website!!!

How do you tell guys what you offer without coming out and telling them. Some guys wanted it spelled out even when you tell them they will have a great time….. Do you think you should list your service or say talents……….

    give me your feedback

    Erin thanks sooo much!

  26. msSmunro  on August 5th, 2009

Hi Erin, I’m keen to try this, can certainly see how it would work but…I’m a little stumped as to what to do with the rest of my rates, 4hrs, 6, 12 etc. Obviously they connot keep going up in blocks of $25. What have others done?

    1 hr – $425
    2 hrs – $850
    3 hrs – $875

    4 hrs – $1700 ?
    6 hrs – $1750 ?
    12 hrs – $3500 ?

Yes, no? Gap between 3 and 4 hrs seems a little extreme.

  27. menina  on October 6th, 2009

my rate is 400, according to this my rate should be 2hour 800 and 3hours 850.

    My current rates are 400hour, 700 2hour, 1000 3hours.
But im not even getting request for 1hour let alone multiples. did get some for my 2hour 700 though. Not sure it’s the economy and job losses or just me.

  28. rene  on October 9th, 2009

    Menina –

You start with your 3 HOUR rate and work down, not the opposit –so according to Erin’s technique, your rates would be:

    $1000 – 3 hours
    $800 – 2 hours
    $500 – 1 hour

  29. Menina  on October 12th, 2009

thanx. Not getting calls for 400 so can’t raise to 500 yet. I did adjust my rates accourding to this site but so far no luck yet.

  30. lucylu  on October 18th, 2009

    Erin,

I thought when I first read this the differential between the two hour and three hour was $50. I have been using this approach and it works great. I do think, though, that I need to start with a higher three hour rate.

BTW, I don’t offer one hour appointments at all… can you help me see how this would work for 90 minutes, two hours and three hours?

    thanks!

    Lucy

  31. red02gmc  on December 30th, 2009

This is all assuming the guy is stupid. You don’t give discounts on your 3 hr appts that end up averaging less than what you want to get per hour. If you want to get $325 per hour, then that’s what you charge. If you want to go for less volume and not make as much money then you discount your longer appts. If you start with your discounted 3hr appt, then use this strategy, you end up being too expensive per hour and won’t get much work at all. MOST guys don’t want longer than an hour, especially during the day….you end up working harder for longer when you discount your 3hr appts and actually get bookings. Guys tend to see the 3hr rate and then think they should be getting that rate divided by 3. They don’t think “hey, 3 hrs is a better deal.” If a guy wants 3hrs, he’s going to book it…even if there’s no discount.

  32. jaclyn  on July 11th, 2010

The best thing any of you can do is scratch the 1hr option completely. 2hr or 3hr minimums work best.

My old rates were as follows:
$350 / hour (2 hour minimum) to select hotels only.

    Packages
4 hours (Dinner and cocktails): $1300
5 hours (Dinner and dessert): $1550
    12 hours: $3300
    24 hours: $5000

    My new rates:
$400 / hour (3 hour minimum) to select hotels only.

    Packages
4 hours (Dinner and cocktails): $1500
5 hours (Dinner and dessert): $1800
    12 hours: $3300
    24 hours: $5000

If business is slow, then by all means try the rate decoy, but consider advertising it as a special for a month, instead of a permanent thing.

I understand the logic behind the rate decoy, however, the difference between the 2hr and 3hr dates is so small, that any escort would be cheating herself, really. Why would an escort see a client for 3hrs, when for a measly $25 less, she saves herself an entire hour of time?

Price yourself higher than you are now. Marketing is a beautiful thing…it allows us to create whichever persona we like! If you want to be high end, then spend a little extra $$$ for a polished website, polished photographs, and a polished presentation of yourself when you arrive at your client’s door…even if you only have one impeccable outfit, pair of shoes, and purse…that is all you need to start.

Remember also that being a selective escort generally makes you more attractive.

hey and on eros how do you know that they are not cops or any of undercovers??? cause i like to be safe then sorry lol

  34. joleneineugene  on September 5th, 2010

This rate thing does not imply that anyone is stupid, men or women – unless you want to infer that everyone who shops for anything is stupid.

It uses a technique that all successful marketers have mastered: Getting the customer or client to choose you over the competition, at least for the first time. Grocery stores use this and so do shop mechanics; malls use it and so do Mom and Pop stores; lawyers use it and so do plumbers. They’re usually known as sales or discounts – and its purpose was, is and will always be to get the client through your front door.

I think that most of you are turned off by the word “decoy” and taking it as a synonym for “bait-and-switch.” Nothing could be further from the truth. It is a sales technique, and a successful one. Whether it’s an idea, a service or a product, nothing happens until something is sold.

As a 30-year veteran of retail and sales, I think this is one of the better ways to draw in someone.

There is, however, one thing you must realize: The rate decoy only brings them in the first time. It’s up to you to be so good at what you do that they’ll call you again and again and again. The initial money may be less than you think you deserve, but if your client becomes a regular, then you’ll get more money overall than if he comes to you only once. Unique clients don’t pay the bills; regulars and repeats do.

  35. tessa  on September 10th, 2010

Personally, I can’t stand to be with my clients, as nice as they are, after one hour. They adore me, but I can’t stand them. Out you go after an hour. :)

  36. Mocha  on December 29th, 2010

I have some clients that actually I adore and have fun with almost as close to acting like friends as you can with a client as a provider. But usually by the end of the 2nd hour or so I want to rest awhile & be alone. 1hr to 2hrs tops. Is preferred for me but then again I’m here for them.

  37. Alexa S  on February 8th, 2011

You guys please please help! okay I just started escorting on this site, i put my add up last week. my hourly rate was 350, i got 2 responses but they were time wasters. a few days ago i lowered it to 300,, then 270, then 260, now: this week 7 responses but they are time wasters and theres a guy i am talking to , we arranged a price but its 240, but i think he’s leading me on because he keeps telling me he still has not found the drugs he wants to use. i lowered it to 250 now. and i will keep it there, i figure i am getting responses everyday so its looking good.. can someone please please help me… it sucks because i have bills due in 2 weeks and i am flat broke i am so scared, cant sleep – is there anybody that can tell me what i need to do and stick to it?? i feel like this realtor guy just wants me to beat my price down and he’s wasting my time. i have learned so far that i can sense a time waster more now than ever. i will not discuss my rates anymore with clients, cuz they are cheap asses that waste my time.. uhhhhh… please ladies.. help a girl with some advice! :-(
